The verdict

The displacement opening is real, but narrow — it sits in who holds the cited positions and which incumbents are slipping, not in a crowded keyword market.

This vertical is not a land-grab. We read displacement through two lenses, kept distinct. Lens 1, the AI answer set: when buyers ask an engine how to get press coverage, the cited positions are held by search-optimised PR-vendor sites — led cross-engine by authoritytech.io — and the Subject does not hold one. Lens 2, the competitive surface: one of the most-visible competitor listings is shedding link authority on a visible, multi-month decay, and that equity is recoverable. Both point the same direction: the play is to capture positions that are either un-held by the Subject or actively loosening — while owning the handful of category terms that actually carry volume.

  • The cited positions are held by citation-engineered vendors, not the Subject. On the two AI engines we could ground, the answer set is led by sites built to be cited — placepaymedia.com (Claude, 10 citations) and a Reddit-plus-vendor tail (Gemini). authoritytech.io is the only site cited across both engines, the most defensible position in the set. The Subject is absent from Claude entirely and surfaces only twice, deep in Gemini's 109-citation tail.
  • On the organic surface, the cleanest opening is a competitor's visible link decay. One of the most-visible competitor listings, leveragewithmedia.com, is losing referring domains faster than it earns them, two months running (a net 35 lost vs 14 gained in August 2025, then 26 vs 4 in September). That is a decay pattern, not churn — recoverable link equity that re-accrues to whoever shows up with better content on the same topic.
  • This is a capture play, not a growth bet — and the keyword market is smaller than the category sells. Of 64 keyword suggestions, only 25 carry measurable volume; the 'guaranteed placement' framing the category markets on shows near-zero search demand. The head term is flat (no statistically significant upward trend anywhere in the set). Size this as defensible share of a stable-to-shrinking pie, not participation in a growing one.

In one line: the opening is to take the citation positions held by sites engineered to be cited — starting with the incumbent whose authority is visibly eroding — not to chase a keyword market that isn't growing.

How to read this report. HIGH means a well-sampled, directly observed signal; PARTIALLY VERIFIED rests on one vector or a partial window; UNDETERMINED means a cross-check could not be settled and we say so inline rather than dress a single signal as confirmed. The AI-citation read (Lens 1) is HIGH for the two engines that performed live web search (Claude: 32 citations / 13 domains; Gemini: 109 / 89); ChatGPT answered from training data without live search and is a disclosed control. The backlink and keyword reads (Lens 2) carry their own confidence per finding. Two cross-references are carried as UNDETERMINED by design (see the scope section). Candor about a boundary is not a hedge — it is the part that tells you what you may act on now.

The citation positions: who holds the AI answer set

Confidence: High (for the two grounded engines).

We asked ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini the questions a buyer asks — how to get press coverage, who does pay-on-results PR — and recorded which sites each engine cited (Lens 1, source: the Vertical Intelligence AI-citation probe). Two of the three engines grounded and performed live web search. Gemini returned 109 citations across 89 domains, led by Reddit, journolink.com, and famehero.com with a long tail of PR-vendor sites. Claude returned 32 citations across 13 domains, led decisively by placepaymedia.com (10 citations) and authoritytech.io (4). The single most telling pattern: authoritytech.io is the only site cited across both engines — the most defensible citation position in the set — and it ranks itself while being a pay-for-performance agency. The cited positions reward sites built to be cited — and those are the positions a displacer has to take.

The Subject's standing in this set is precise: Gemini cited both of the Subject's domains once each, deep in the tail; Claude did not cite the Subject at all. Two long-tail mentions out of 141 total grounded citations, zero leading positions. The problem is not that the engines don't know the Subject — it is that the Subject is not built, as the leaders are, to be the answer. Closing that gap is a citation-engineering problem, and it is the highest-value displacement target this read surfaces.

Across the competitor listings on the organic surface (Lens 2, source: the competitive-surface backlink run), one stands out for the wrong reasons — wrong for the incumbent, right for a displacer. leveragewithmedia.com lost referring domains on a net basis for two consecutive months. A single bad month is churn; two consecutive months of accelerating net loss is a decay pattern — consistent with an algorithmic correction, a manual action, or a site change that broke inbound links. The same listing carries a toxic-anchor indicator (an elevated spam score on its bare-domain anchor), which compounds the fragility: an authority profile that is both shrinking and carrying spam risk is a soft target, not an entrenched one.

The displacement read is direct: the domains that recently dropped this competitor are the outreach list for a sharper player. Link equity is leaving this listing whether or not anyone moves on it; the only question is whether it re-accrues to a competitor who shows up with better content on the same topic.

The displaceability matrix

A complete displaceability read scores each competitor listing on three vectors: backlink fragility, keyword-overlap, and content-coverage gap. This issue carries one of the three — backlink fragility — at usable depth. The other two are a named scoped boundary (see the scope section), not a verdict we will fabricate. With that stated plainly, the fragility-ranked picture is below. No counter-signal pass was applied to these classifications this issue, so treat the soft/entrenched split as a fragility-only first cut.

Demand and the capture play

Confidence: High.

A 50-keyword target set for this vertical is aspirational, not grounded. Of 64 keyword suggestions, only 25 carry measurable volume; the remaining 39 are zero-demand terms, and the true addressable universe is roughly 8–17 terms — a small, concentrated market. The most important pattern inside it: the 'guaranteed placement' sub-vertical shows near-zero search demand. Terms like 'guaranteed PR coverage' and 'PR placement guarantee' return null volume. That framing is something the category sells, not something buyers search — a supply-side construct. Prune to the volume-bearing terms, led by 'pay for results seo,' 'pay on results PR,' and 'results based PR agency.'

That reframes the strategy: this is not a market to bet on for growth but one to capture — own the terms that carry demand today and take share from incumbents who are slipping — because there is no rising tide to lift a late entrant.

What this means for you — the displacement plan

In priority order:

  1. Engineer for the cited positions first. The highest-value gap is that the Subject holds no AI-citation position while authoritytech.io holds the only cross-engine one. Build the on-page, structured-data, and citation-worthy content that the recurring winners share — this is a citation-engineering problem, not a brand-awareness one.
  2. Move on the link decay. Build one decision-grade content asset on 'pay on results PR' and run outreach to the referring domains that recently dropped leveragewithmedia.com. You are not competing for new links; you are catching equity already in motion. Realistic capture is a handful of referring domains — small in absolute terms, meaningful in a market this concentrated.

Scope, confidence, and what a deeper engagement adds

This issue reads the public competitive surface across the signals both probes produced reliably. Below is exactly what each finding rests on — and exactly where the boundary sits. These are scoped diligence boundaries, named with the work that closes each one, not failures.

  • Full content-coverage classification. The three-vector displaceability model rests on classifying what each competitor page covers. Per-URL content classification reached only 2 of the 19 cited competitor URLs this issue (an upstream page-reachability limit), and both were agency-authored promotional pieces. We therefore scored the matrix on the backlink-fragility vector alone rather than infer coverage from 2 of 19 pages. A deeper engagement fetches all 19 and turns 'which pages under-serve the buyer' from a boundary into a ranked target list.
  • Keyword-overlap scoring. Ranked-keyword and domain-intersection pulls for the buyer domain and each competitor — the third displaceability vector, currently unscored.
  • Backlink-fragility, confirmed. The lead fragility finding stands on its own two-month directional evidence; what is Undetermined is the independent cross-check (single-snapshot, single-source, no temporal second signal). A deeper pass adds URL-level multi-month timeseries cross-referenced against a second backlink source.
  • Citation-path teardown. Lens 1 identifies who the engines cite; a deeper engagement reverse-engineers what the recurring winners (authoritytech.io, placepaymedia.com) share — their backlink, on-page, and structured-data patterns — and turns it into a prioritized plan to close the Subject's citation gap.   • The buyer's own baseline. The Subject's organic ranking position could not be established here — the SERP-history probe of the Subject's primary domain returned no ranking data, recorded as a boundary rather than inferred.
