We Tried to Validate Four Marketing Claims. Three Failed.
ForIntel ran original research to test four widely cited SEO multipliers across ecommerce, B2B SaaS, healthcare, and nonprofits. Here is what the data showed.
Marketing content is full of specific numbers. "Companies with complete schema markup get 3.4x more AI Overview inclusions." "Healthcare practices with faster review acquisition rank 2.4x better in local search." "Nonprofits with deep donor-journey content see 2.8x more visibility on donation-related searches."
These numbers circulate through vendor blogs, agency pitch decks, and conference keynotes. They get cited as benchmarks. They get used to justify budget decisions.
We decided to test them.
ForIntel ran four original investigations in April 2026 — one in each of the verticals where these specific claims appear most often. The methodology, the data sources, and the failures are all disclosed in the full research note. Here is what we found.
Three of four claims did not hold up
The short version of the scorecard: the ecommerce schema claim could not be tested because our data collection hit a technical wall. The healthcare review velocity claim could not be tested because review timestamp data was unavailable for 24 of our 25 targeted practices. The nonprofit donor-intent claim appears to be testing a behavior that may not meaningfully exist — large nonprofits may simply not acquire donors through organic search on donation keywords at scale.
One investigation did produce a finding — the B2B SaaS integration depth claim — but the result was not what the claim predicted. More on that below.
The honest summary: three of four widely cited multipliers in these verticals cannot be independently validated right now, either because the data to validate them is not accessible or because the underlying behavior is not what the claim assumes.
This is not unusual. It is just rarely disclosed.
The one finding that held — and then some
The B2B SaaS claim was that companies with 20 or more dedicated integration pages receive roughly 2.1 times more non-branded organic search visibility than companies with fewer.
Our research across 30 B2B SaaS companies found a different number: 44 times more median non-branded keyword visibility for companies with deep integration coverage versus shallow. Not 2.1 times. Forty-four.
This comes with important caveats — the measurement had a ceiling that may have compressed the true number, and two companies were likely miscategorized — so the specific magnitude should be treated as directional rather than precise. But the direction is unambiguous. Integration page depth correlates with organic visibility far more strongly than the claimed multiplier suggests, and most SaaS content strategies significantly underinvest in it.
If you manage marketing for a B2B SaaS company and you do not have dedicated pages for each of your integrations, this is probably the highest-leverage content gap you have.
Why the failures matter as much as the finding
The three investigations that did not validate are not failures in the sense of wasted effort. They are findings about the research itself — specifically, about how SEO claims get made and circulated.
The schema parsing failure in ecommerce tells us that validating schema-to-AI-Overview claims requires a data collection method that most researchers do not have access to. The review velocity failure in healthcare tells us that the data behind Local Pack ranking claims is harder to collect than the confidence of the claims implies. The nonprofit finding raises the possibility that entire categories of claimed multipliers are measuring behaviors that do not occur at the scale the claims assume.
The most common way SEO research goes wrong is not bad methodology. It is that the investigations that fail at data collection never get published — only the ones that produce a clean number get shared. This creates a systematic bias toward confident, specific claims in the published literature and away from the honest uncertainty that most rigorous research produces.
What this means for how you evaluate marketing research
When a vendor tells you that their tactic produces a 3x improvement, the question worth asking is not "is 3x enough to justify the investment" but "how was this measured, and what failed during the research that the published number doesn't show?"
Reputable research discloses sample sizes, data sources, measurement failures, and the range of possible interpretations. If the vendor content cannot tell you any of those things, the number is probably marketing, not research.
